 In North Carolina!
A Very Odd Merc & A Buffalo Bill Token ...
Got out Sunday afternoon to an old home site I've been researching. Torn down in the 1950s and put in farm field. I've tried to locate the home site on a couple of other visits but just couldn't pin it down. Today, I finally located the site and found the following: 2 Merc dimes (one in very bad condition), 7 wheats (all in rough shape), a Buffalo Bill token, an old key, several washers, flat button, and a rivet. Also eye ball found a nice marble and a couple of pieces of field glass. I don't know what happened to the one Merc dime ... maybe burned? exposed to some chemical? What do you think?

I found a Merc that was toasted like that in my yard, right next to a shiny Roosevelt. mine was concave on the face and convex on the back, and just as toasted. I have no idea what happened to it. Nice finds though

Re: A Very Odd Merc & A Buffalo Bill Token ...
I've seen a few dimes come out of the ground like that. Must be very acidic soil? Still nice finds and good Research!!

I love the Buffalo Bill token, that's a keeper! The merc looks like it spent some years in salt water but could have gone threw a some heat along the way, who knows. Regardless, nice finds.

The Merc, Ive pulled one very similar from a fresh water lake swimming area. I just assumed it was minerals in the water myself.

I'd say it's been burned, possibly from burning trash. I've found a couple like that in a yard where other surrounding targets showed evidence of being burned and blackened.

Keep your coil to the soil!!!
Re: A Very Odd Merc & A Buffalo Bill Token ...
Nice finds! I pulled a couple mercs that looked just like that from a river last spring. Could be fire, could be ground minerals. Either way, it's a silver coin and something you don't see every day. Congrats!
