    One coin wonder, another first!

Went to my ever-producing general store today and pulled yet another first. something that's been on my want list since day 1 but never thought i'd get one. 1858 flying eagle cent completely surrounded by rusty nails and about 10 inches deep. signal was iffy and I know for a fact i've dug for this target before, but stopped short of it after not being able to pinpoint.

WTG on finding that 10 inches down I believe that's the best looking FE I have seen on here before.

    Congrats djm

I have just about gave up on ever finding one.

10" and surrounded by Sq nails.

    I need a new detector.

Did you find it with the E-Trac? what size coil?

Re: One coin wonder, another first!

Deno, yes found with the etrac with stock coil and running Two Tone Ferrous. Like I said, this target has "pinged" before but never real solid and with all the interference around it, I just never could pinpoint it. I've dug probably four holes around it and pulled square nails out each time, only to give up and "assume" that was my target. My propointer was below ground surface (the top of it that is!) before I got the signal last night....this baby was deep, but the "e" was telling me the whole time to keep digging. next time i'll listen the first time instead of dragging the find out over multiple trips
Tex, yes I had to scrub it, sadly. it was caked in mud and I definitely lost some looks after scrubbing. I could read 1858 clear as day before cleaning it. Live and learn I guess.

You would have found one Deno If I hadn't beat you to it.
Unfortunately you got the better end of the deal on the return hunt
I was a day late on digging the Spanish and Capped and Seated.

Re: One coin wonder, another first!

Bev, you have captured my feelings exactly First thought was, indian head.....could see the back but front was completely mudded out. I saw that the shield was missing and thought.....old indian head, can't be a flying eagle. starting slowing working the front and saw 1858 and started shaking a bit......finally the outline of the eagle came through. I dropped the gear and called my uncle, Jeff of PA to tell him. I just couldn't keep this to myself! after getting off the phone with him, i pocketed the find and drove the 1/2 mile home, the whole way thinking i saw it wrong and it would end up being an indian head. Rinsed it off in the sink and handed it to my wife and said "please tell me there is an eagle on there. she said, yeah there is, you're weird, clean up the sink! She just doesn't get it
