A fun day at the beach and a couple land finds as well

A beautiful day here in Portland today. Mid thirties and sunny with a 2:30 pm low tide . I started a new beach area on the northeast end of Casco Bay. I Began hunting the trail down to the beach area at 12:30 and started making a few finds right off the bat . The first decent one being the Portland Rail Road cuff button. A few clad coins later I poped a deep nickel. l was thinking Buff or V nickel but to my surprise I could see enough detail even in the field to I.D. it as a shield nickel . Only my third one . This one is an 1866 first year issue with stars and rays and in not too bad a shape all things considered 20 more mins. of nothing and I got impatient on the trail scince only the leaf covered areas of this south facing bank were thawed enough to dig and headed down to the beach hopefull for some more finds . Found alot of lead on the beach, fishing weights and gun lead as well . A .69 cal and a .65 cal musket ball were my best lead finds. The two best finds from the beach were both eyeball finds. The T D marked clay pipe bowl and the embossed bottle marker . Stamped St Julien Me'doc . There is a St Julien winery in Me'doc France, which is near the bourdeux region . So perhaps a wine bottle piece. I took an in situation photo of the clay pipe just laying on top of the gravely sand . I was surprised it was there as I spoke to a woman who picks sea glass there frequently. All in all I had a great afternoon at the beach ! Thanks for looking. MaineRelic

Thanks Dawg I had a fun relaxing afternoon , I forgot to list that coin you thought might be a cent is actually a silver dime from the salt. Canadian Elizabeth II 1953 - 1964 my only silver find of the day ! M.r.

You make me laugh , it does not look like a silver but the photo is not scaled my bad the coin is only 16.52 mm in diameter worn and eaten by the salt from it's original 18.03 mm size. and by the way I need glasses for everything now LOl M. R.
