Gristmill stone
A friend told me about an old gristmill not to far from his house. So i decided to go check it out. Didnt find a lot of keepers but had a blast. A 1919 wheat, a muzzel sling hook and a leather rivot. The iron thingy I have no idea.

Get the stone if you can. They are worth some big bucks these days.
Stand up for what's right, even if your standing alone.

CANE FIELD BANDITS and IRON BRIGADE MEMBER
Re: Gristmill stone
Well...I think you should leave something as HEAVY and difficult to move--and Valuable on the property (which belongs to someone else I assume). Not so great trying to ask to remove something like that. I have seen them on properties I have detected, enjoyed them while there, and left them be. Some of those things are way out in the middle of nowhere to the point you'd have to have a crane or backhoe to get it--assuming the property owner would even let you try. You see, it's one thing to take a little handfull of metal with you in a property owner's eyes. It's another if you want to remove and keep (or re-sell) a fixture of the landscape.
You had a nice day digging. That musket sling hook is a great find.
Cheers,
Buckles

Very true. I would never think of removing it, even if i could. The history behind it is what i love. The mill was in operation up till the turn of the century then it was used as a voting precinct till the late 20's. Its a very peaceful place with the sound of water close by. I plan on hitting it hard. I was only able to stay a couple hours because of rain, but I think its going to be intresting to see what comes out from there.

Re: Gristmill stone
They found a Millstone in my town after the Sept. flooding. It was exposed in the creek. They lifted it with a backhoe. Said it was half a ton. Hit that spot hard.

As far as the rusted metal thing goes just at first glance You would think it was a rusted whites detector battery other than the fact they are plastic lol. Did anyone else notice how much it resembeled a whites battery?
