Redcoat Brown Bess and Silver Cufflink

Hello everyone. Went out for a few hour hunt today and visited a wooded area that my buddies and I have dug many times. The woods sit close to an old antebellum home that was built around 1809. I have found some nice tombac buttons and flat buttons from the area. Today I was really surprised to see silver unearthed. My first target was around 5-6 inches on the AtPro and rang in as a High tone in pro mode. Dug down and saw this looking back at me.

A really nice Silver button. I believe it has an I or Roman numeral 1 on it..Not sure

I dug a few round balls the rest of the day. My last target of the day really blew me away..I got a nice high screamer and dug this..

I figured it was a butt plate to a gun, but not sure what kind of gun it was off of I scanned around where I found it and didn't really think the rest of the gun could be there...WELL come to find out this butt plate is off of a the 1700's Redcoat Brown Bess..!!!
The Flintlock musket the British used in the 1700's and the early 1800's...Man I am beside myself after digging this one. And as you can see the Screws are still in it WHICH leads me to believe the wood from the gun rotted away and MAYBE JUST MAYBE the rest of the gun could be there. I will go back and look soon to see... Thanks for reading guys and Happy hunting..zaxfire69

Re: Redcoat Brown Bess and Silver Cufflink

Thanks guys. The cufflink is hand engraved. Any idea what letter that is? Is it an I? I'm not sure of that. I do know the Brown Bess Butt Plate Rocks!!!

Going to be a colonial Silver cufflink for sure after doing research. Had an awesome day.

I'm not sure which piece to comment on...they're both really nice finds. Silver monogramed cufflinks don't pop out of the ground every day, but neither does the butt plate for a Brown Bess....way too cool

Hope you go back soon and find the rest of the Brown Bess.
