2 hours at the Celtic cemetery area, UPDATED, cemetery marked...

Hunted around the Celtic cemetery for about 45 minutes, things were really dead there, pun intended, so I moved up the hill away from the cemetery. If you haven’t read my previous posts, the 2000ish year old cemetery has been exhumed by Archaeologists due to the new construction of a road. After another hour of detecting I had found 1 German military button from around the mid to late 1800s with a rampant lion facing right and a few pieces of trash. Not many finds but, it was a beautiful fall day with no hassles. Here is an aerial picture of the area before the construction started, can you see where the cemetery was? HH, Mike

Re: 2 hours at the Celtic cemetery area...

    BM,

well yes Can I see where it was at

    RTD say the triangle section.

I'm thinking the last post had something about
    a bridge Over what?

OK, I give up on the bridge idea.

Final idea, it just South east of the triangle section,
the area where the two roads are joined and small
hump of land with trees between the two roads.

    have a good un..........

Gosh, I can't believe it, even you have mediocre days.

Everytime I pull up one of your posts I expect to see at least $1,000 worth of digs.

Hang in there and you'll find some more great stuff. Man, how I'd love to hunt those sites.

    Great post.

Re: 2 hours at the Celtic cemetery area...

I did some research on the Celtic cemetery dig, was hard to find anything other than a reference to the cemetery. I finally found a document and a few pictures of relics mixed with similar relics of other digs from the region. Awesome relics, the burial goods consist of swords, daggers, glass beads, bronze earrings, gold brooches, fibulas and even partial shoes like moccasins that were laced and many other relics. Do a search on Celtic burial goods if you are interested. This particular cemetery is mentioned as the farthest east culture of the region. I have also realized that the cemetery, even though exhumed, will not be covered over by a street, the bridge spans over it, not to protect it but, because it is a low area with a stream flowing through it so it will remain a historical site. I’ll continue to detect the road development in the opposite direction. Would be nice to work with the Archaeologists and share info but, the Archie in charge of this area straight out lied to me and said it is illegal to detect/dig in Bavaria and detecting permits are not granted. I’ve had a permit for 3 years and I’m about to renew it again and will take my finds to the Archaeological department for inspection before they will approve the next one. I marked the cemetery area on the aerial view, I’m sure this is the area so maybe it will help everyone recognize terrain features from aerial pictures and google earth, those little oddities spotting the terrain just might be something. This picture shows a nice obvious round spot in the cemetery and it isn’t a crop circle, probably the grave of a tribal leader. The bodies were laid to rest head to the north and feet to the south. HH, Mike

Looks great Mike! A lot like over here where a lot of the old tombs have been empty and moved to newer family tombs. Always good to hunt the old pathways to these areas back in the jungle. Yes, nice to work with the Archaeologists, I have done this about 20 years ago. The guy in charge was real nice and even made a copy of the coin book they use. They had me take chop sticks and mark everywhere I got a hit on the detector. Some of these where old bronze coins. Anyway, good luck with the hunts and I will start soon as the weather cools down.

    Hey Mike.

Sorry my spelling is terrible. I spent a lot of time in the air there in Blackhawk Helicopters. Is that the romatish (can't remember how to spell the word) highway?

    Postalrevnant

This time of the year it's getting pretty cold and frozen normally. Love those great finds, just hope your wrist doesn't get beat up bad. With 9 months of the year being cold that ground isn't very forgiving at times.

    BM,

    ever play a hunch.

Why not give that area NE of the triangle section,
small island between two roads, with a few trees.

Few folks picked it out, don't know why. Interesting.
Why did a few pick it out

    Just a hunch.

Hi Burdie, the program is like Google earth but, only for Bavaria. Postalrevnant, the Romantic Road starts about 30 minutes from here near Wurzburg, this is not it. Shermanville, they are building a road that bypasses the little town nearby due to heavy traffic, what a mess it is during rush hour with all the trucks. I'll post a picture of the button when I make a few more finds. Badger, I have days where I find nothing at all, makes that next find more precious, LOL! HH, Mike
