Germany Finds (Part 17) SILVER Cache, Gold, and even a diamond...check it out
Hello
I have now started to check another US base here in Germany since I'm attending school there. As luck would have it another student there is an MDer and he also uses an XLT...hummm how's that for coincidence. It's at this post that I found my little silver cache, as alway I was giving up and on my way back to the car. The field was not really giving up anything. I was only feet away from my car and near some trees and I got a good signal. At 3 inches out comes out a Merc, suddenly my cell phone rings my wife gets to hear my excitement as the rest of the coins are dug from the same hole, for a total of 3ea Mercs, 1ea 1950 Roosevelt, 1945 Quarter and a 1944 Nickle (with silver). My wife told me I sounded like a little kid as I was give a narration of my discoveries. Finally got that silver quarter, don't forget all finds are in Germany.
NOTEABLES:
sliver coins
14K Diamond ring (almost did not dig rang as a pull tab)
Brass band
Large musket ball
Crest with bust
strange 50cal short cartridge case
The finds, large silver item in the 3 o'clock position might be a German helmet liner device, has markings from 1940....this is about 5 hours of finds

Observe, bust crest, 4th Armored Division crest, old button, Susan B, religions pendant and rings on bullet.
My silver cache all from one hole...yesssssssssss!!!!

Another view, have some wheat pennies.

Some nice finds for our neck of the woods, but being on a base, that´s why a lot is American. You should try my area, the finds come few and far between, but sometimes we get Roman or Celtic ontop of lots of ammo (US, French,German), and the usual iron and alu.

Cool finds!! Where on bases do you dig? I am in the Landstuhl/Ramstein area. I was always curious about digging on a base. I have done a bit of MDing outside of landstuhl, but mostly found m16 blanks since they used the area for training. I thought it would be kind of hard to dig on base since you would be messing up the grass and what not. Definately cool finds!!!!

I too live overseas, in Okinawa. There are no shortage of bases to hunt, but I am not sure who to even ask permission from?! Can you give me a little insight here. I have been hittin the beach, but I know a few areas would be prime, but don't want to get picked up by Security Forces, lol.
Nice finds. Always neat to find U.S. coins while overseas, even if they are still used on the bases.
Congrats!

Awesome finds and congrats on that silver cache! The pendant with a bust is King Ludwig, the crazy king that built Neuschwanstein castle near Garmisch. HH, Mike

Just a lil' bit outta plumb...
Re: Germany Finds (Part 17) SILVER Cache, Gold, and even a diamond...check it out
I was stationed in Germany for 15 years ~ that was nine years ago before I retired.
Some insight for you still over there and who want to hunt the "kasernes"..... perhaps out of date, but info on being given the "Go ahead".
Hit the PMO ~ provost marshals office - the MPs. They can tell you yes/no if there is/is not a local commander's policy about hunting the installation. If not prohibited, I always went ahead and searched, making sure I didn't leave any sign where I dug. Never had a problem.
I've MDed Leonard Wood, Riley, Carson, and Stewart here stateside over the course of my career. Finding a "cache" like described above is nothing new to me. I've found 'em several times where there would be more'n one half, quarters, dimes, nickles, pennys, keys, pocket knives, lighters all together in one hole. Remember the old green fatigues. Front slit side pockets, seam up the outside. Anyone sitting on the ground (and believe me, I wore 'em, and it happens) lifting their legs to wrap their arms around them would lose everything in those pockets. ALWAYS detect the large trees on the installation. That's where they sat outta the sun, and, BTW, often left something behind outta their pockets.
If interested the Hanau area, I can give you areas to search for Napolean's battle with the Hessians, the last where he took personal charge of the battle, which he did win, and can almost guar-ron-tee you'll pull musket balls from the battle at the least. I've got a can full.
Robin
I respect your opinion, but not when I know better.
