SWAMP MONSTER
Went out yesterday late afternoon, (Yes in the rain) . Covered the XLT and went to work in a field that has produced many coins from 1800 to early 1900's. I always bypassed a swampy area in the lower end. Since I was already wet and had the high boots on, I decided to check the area. Glad I did, after finding a harmonica reed and some brass shot shell ends, I hit a solid + 90 Signal. Out of the mud came my first Trade Dollar.

Re: SWAMP MONSTER
According to the Pcgs Price Guide you have a $250.00 coin
which I would say grades in Extra Fine Condition

Re: SWAMP MONSTER
WOW!!!!! I'd like to know if anyone else has ever found a trade dollar? Short production run and designed for oriental trade, it can't be a common find. Congrats

First of all, what an awesome find. I don't remember any other trade dollar finds before this. I would agree with the grade, at least from the pictures. The pcgs prices however aren't a very good guide to use if you are looking for real world value though. Very inflated. I used it for some of my collection, when I brought it up at the coin shop the owner more or less laughed at me. If you want a real world value, use something called the grey sheet (I think). Otherwise bring it to a coin shop, of course the price they give will be on the low side but at least it will be in the ball park. Again, awesome find!!!

Re: SWAMP MONSTER
That is SO awesome. If I found something like that, I would never stop celebrating. I can't wait to get out and detect again. Our weather is supposed to get into the 40s and 50s next week. Soon as the snow is gone and the ground begins to unthaw, I'm hittin' it hard! I got the fever bad!!!
Thanks for posting your find. Great pic!
