We found these 2 on the same property. We believe the pointed one is East Alton Dog Tax tag from the year after the town was created in 1893.

WOW ~ that is amazing!!!! That 1894 East Alton tag is a new discovery. The book currently has 1946 listed as the oldest reported dog tag from there. I will forward your picture to the editor so they can change this info in the future prints

Searching on an old ranch house dating from the 1930’s and torn down around the 1970’s I got permission on. I would like to know if this might be the oldest in Humboldt county or if you have any additional info on it. Thanks in advance, seabees 248B894E-01B2-4DE8-A844-91BB589C06F5.jpeg

FOUND: Dog Tag Hoard

I'm picker, not a detectorist, but I know a good thing when I see it. Yesterday I found a big hoard of metal badges at a sale, 200-300, with 65 of them vintage dog tags. I've added pics of the best. I don't know much about these, but I'm learning quickly. My favorites:
1932 Nez Perce #1
1917 Port Simpson Indian Council #30 (2-sided)
1929 Butte #77
1930 Walla Walla County #200
1923 Juneau #200
1921 Bend #9
1929 Vernal City #20
1924 Grandview #9
1930 Imperial Cal.
1949 Portland #6666
1931 Santa Maria, Ca. #77
Best way to clean these? White vinegar? Thanks for any info. This looks like a fun hobby.

Nice batch of tags! Not sure I would clean them myself. They look pretty good as-is.

That is a cool find! Your tag is from 1955 (EXP. 6-30-1956 means it was issued in 1955).

The current oldest reported dog tag from Humboldt County CA is dated 1938, however, I am sure there's ones older than that! Just none have been found or reported yet!

Thank you for sharing,
Neil

Gotta show you guys the tag I found yesterday. I suppose I don't need to say that I'm pretty pumped over it, do I?

Found in Minnesota. There is a Hartford township in Minnesota, but there are also Hartfords in Wisconsin, Iowa, and South Dakota as well as Connecticut and many other states, so if anybody can help me figure out which one this was from, please let me know.

Pretty cool to find #1 :icon_thumleft: I wonder how many dogs they had in that town.

If it was Hartford Township in my state of Minnesota, probably not many. It is a very small town. But there are also Hartfords in all of our surrounding states except for (I think) North Dakota, and a total of 20 Hartfords in the United States, so...

ISALC ~ International Society of Animal License Collectors ~ is always wanting to update our O.K. (Oldest Known) tag list for every City, Township, County, and State.

PLEASE feel free to e-mail me if you have old dog tags (not military ID tags) ~ I can check the list to see if you're holding the O.K. tag (send along pictures)! Or, e-mail me and I can tell you the O.K. tag for a certain area.

Sorry, our list isn't "on-line".

PS,
all O.K. are not necessarily that old. Some towns are so small that we have NO tags reported for them. We wanna know about ALL areas.
Here you go.
1936 Tyngsborough, mass

YEAH! That is a great find!!

The dog tag book currently has 1951 listed as the oldest known tag from TYNGSBORO Mass. I am 100% sure that is the same place, however, the listing in the book will Stay that way and we'll add 1936 TYNGUSBOROUGH Mass as a new listing!

THANK YOU for the report!
