    5 in trade

    Here's another token found in Elmira, NY. Any info would be greatly appreciated. It's very plain with the number "5" on one side and "in trade" on the reverse, thanks for looking.

    There was a discussion of this generic trade token a year or so ago here. They are found all over the country and were probably used primarily by general stores in lieu of having custom made tokens (with their store name and perhaps location), or perhaps temporarily until their custom tokens arrived. The upside for the store was that these were cheap. The downside was that they could be brought in from afar.
