Found this Iowa token, can you help on it's value?

Hi All,
I found this token a couple of weeks ago in Iowa where I guess this is from.
I would like to get it's age and value.
Any help is welcome. Thanks and happy hunting!

Gosh, Old Abe; when I used to drink (25 years ago), thought I'd been in most all Iowa bars :P

Guess not!

The address of 37th Street indicates a fair sized town; maybe that will help. Where in Iowa did you find it?

Good Luck finding the place; neat token :)

Hi DFIU,
I found it the small town of Dunlap, Iowa so I guess it is probably from Council Bluffs Iowa, which has 75,000 people and has a 35th st on the map. Thanks for the reply. HH

Re: Found this Iowa token, can you help on it's value?

Anthony C. Skafgaard came from Denmark in 1885 and soon set himself up in the booming saloon business in Chicago. He got out of that line before most of his fellow saloon keepers were forced out by Prohibition and entered the cement contracting business.

His token is not listed in the 2nd Edition of the Vacketta IL token book. With the passing of the author some years ago, nobody has taken an interest in cataloguing Chicago tokens. It seems that there are not even many collectors interested in Chicago tokens, so the value of the piece is hard to determine. My guess is that it would bring $25 or so on eBay, but that is just a guess.

Nice find!

Whoops! forgot to say that by 1910 he was in the cement contracting business, so that dates the token to 1885-1910.

Nice token, I have many that look like that one, but of course say from some where else. Most of them say good for 5 cents in trade at a bar. Anyway you look at it, that is a nice find. Really in good shape. Thanks for the post and the great picture.

Value? Well, it is worth at least 5 cents!
At Skafgaard's bar.
