WW II US Camp Token

Found this camp token in my father's belongings.....he trained @ Fort Jackson,SC in the early 40's before shipping overseas......

Hello Relish,
Your token, is it brass or "white metal" (nickel color)? Both types are listed. That is the 8th INFANTRY DIVISION insignia on the reverse. The tokens (both brass and nickel) are listed in the Cunningham domestic military book, page 248. Columbia, South Carolina (Fort Jackson).

the catalog numbers are SC90a for nickel and SC90b for brass. Both list for only $3 each, but am sure the token will have huge personal/family/sentimental value to you and yours since your dad used the token and was stationed there in WWII before he shipped out to overseas. Thank goodness for men like your dad!

The 8th Infantry Division

During World War II, in early July 1944, the "Golden Arrow" division landed on Utah Beach in Normandy, just weeks after the Allies invaded France on D-Day (June 6, 1944). Shortly after its arrival, the division captured the French cities of Rennes and Brest. Following these actions, the 8th turned eastward toward the German border, taking part in the heavy fighting in the Hürtgen Forest in November 1944. In early March 1945, the 8th had advanced into the Rhineland. It fought its way into the Ruhr region the following month. By war's end, the "Arrow" division had advanced to the Elbe River in central Germany.

Thanks for all the info and kind comments....my dad was discharged in 1945 and he lived to the age of 84....a U.S. Army color guard was at his funeral....my sister still has a German bayonet that he brought home from the war.
