1890 DOG TAG

Finally had time to do a little detecting, managed this little guy today.
Assuming it's from Nebraska, hope it's one of the early ones.

Just got you're pm before I saw this post, so please ignore my ignorance.
Others do, daily.
Does the 1889 look the same? At first I thought some kid had trimmed the edges, but if they did
it was soon after they got it. The patina is the same color on all sides.

After I posted this, I started cleaning the tag. I did notice on the back there is a small crimp where it appears that someone used a tool
to hold it in place to clip the edges.

Great find Carl. Strange how the dogs in the neighborhood seemed to acknowledge that dog's life while you were digging up that tag. Erie. Cool that the dog that wore that tag probably "came West" with its master to have a better life! Nice find and interesting shape.
