To be honest, I'm not sure if this is a token, a tag, or other, but I guess this is a good place to start. I can find plenty on the World Cotton Exposition, New Orleans 1884, including coins and tokens, but have been unsuccessful in finding this exact design. I can't tell if there was anything on the reverse... its covered in crud. (I could maybe get that crud off with more electrolysis, but that will also remove the remaining patina from the front, and I don't want to do that.)

OK, I went ahead and hit it up with some more electrolysis so I could see what was on the reverse, and the verdict is... nothing. It looks as though it may have been glued to something at one time. Anyway... not a token, and probably not a medallion.

OK, here's the best shot that I can get of the reverse. You can probably see why I thought there was nothing there, but if you compare it with the picture from Bramblefind's link, you can see what it is.
