My friend found this aluminum token last month in American Falls, Idaho, and asked me to post it for him to try to find out anything about it. Says Tortoni Bar Creede Colo. Good for 12 1/2 cents. Any information appreciated.
This token is listed in Prichard's Colorado token book as the Torton Bar. The typo has been carried over to tokencatalog as well. Pretty obviously the author hasn't seen one.
Torton may also be a typo. The Creede newspaper of December 16, 1892 (col. 1) mentioned the G.B. McAdams and Co. Pineer Meat Market relocated to the corner of San Luis and 3rd Street, 2 doors south of Tortoni. The 'i' is obvious on the token.

Don.......
BTW, Bob Ford's dance hall was across the street from the Tortoni Hotel.
I stretch to suggest the Tortoni Bar was inside the Tortoni Hotel.
Great history was created the town of Creede; like Soapy Smith.
