need tips for buying a scale

So I got on Ebay and found sooooo many scales. Some were even disguised as other things so it can't be called drug paraphernalia. Haha. Some range from $8 to $90, small to large, LED/LCD.

So I was wondering what I should look for when buying a scale. I will be weighing jewelry and coins. What range will I need, size, kind of diplay, etc. And what the heck is a tare?

So, if you have and recommendations on buyung a scale, please let me know.

Tare means you can put say a cup on the scale and push the tare button to zero the scale again when looking for net weight.

The small pocket scales are fine for most people back in the day they were pricey I use a AMW pocket scale that works fine.
