Move over, Lesche. There's a new digger in town.

Check this bad boy out. New hori hori just came in the mail. 1/8" thick blade heat treated to a Rockwell hardness of 58 and literally razor sharp. Them Japanese sure are serious about their gardening tools.

Interesting ... Thanks for posting.

I for one am a fan of almost all things made of stainless steel... and I am definitely a fan of Japanese made steel.... always have been.

Many people in conversations of various situations "dog" anything not made from American made steels...
But few realize the comparison is "bar none".

As a diver I have experience all types and grades of various stainless steels in various "tools" IE: Dive knives in particular... and wil tell you this.

IF I ever see a tool like the one shown here ... made in Japan... I AM interested.

The Japanese have surpassed metal work in this world eons ago... and am impressed HIGHLY with this item.

As far as I am concerned you made a good purchase... my only hesitation with the design is the handle... I am wondering "what" or shall I say "how" / what the handle is affixed... and what the design UNDER the rubber looks like...
IF the handle (under this rubber) is "through" ... them this IMO is the baddest arse digger on the market.

IF that is true Japanese steel and through handle... GOOD LUCK on breaking / "snapping"....

IF that was American made of any other steel... I would agree.

And furthermore... I will add... just since I am on a roll / tangent...

I have... and only own ... Japanese dive knives.

Will not dive with any other.

I agree with you on the full tang thing. Not really sure how far into the handle the tang goes, but I tried twisting and pulling on it and it had absolutely no give or no flex whatsoever. So I'm hoping for the best. They have my knife, along with a half tang wooden handled one here:

https://www.snowjoe.com/product/nis....25-inch-blade-limited-edition-dsr-1k6-njp651

The blade is exactly the same as the blade on mine.

As for the steel itself, I researched it and found it had an insanely high amount of chromium in it, which they said also gives it strength. The pictures I took really don't do it justice. It's one of those knives you just have to feel in your hands to realize you have a chunk of seriously high quality steel.

Will it snap? I'm sure it would if under enough pressure. But then again, so would the Lesche. Is it more brittle than the Lesche? I honestly have no idea, but I aim to find out.

Sheesh even the sheath is better than any I see out there. heh

Speaking of which... can you post more pics of the sheath ?

And onward... can you tell anything about that handle ? IE: does it seem to go through to the butt ? the steel that is ... or forked would even be good.

Someone would do good out there by inventing a "dive knife" digger... NOT for diving... but for function...

Roller ball stay / quick release.. with hard leg strap able ABS sheath... etc.

HERE... is a good design that should be mod to a digger IMO...

I own these types / brand.

I'm assuming the steel goes as far into the handle as it possibly can, because notice the center of gravity. If it didn't, the weight of the blade would be too great and the center of gravity would be further down the blade.

Hey... you a pretty smart dude.

So... in other words... Not only do you own "the sharpest tool in the shed"... but you may also be somewhere in that "shed".

I'm noticing it has a pretty high carbon content as well. I'm guessing that's what allows it to be heat treated to a Rockwell of 58.

IF that steel is "stout" AND goes back to "opening"...

No worries on breaking that thing.
