Homemade Non-metallic Digging Tool

After a 25 yr. break, I'm about to start detecting again. I thought having a hand digging tool I could scan with my pinpointer would be nice. I came up with this but haven't tried it.

I cut a scrap 12" piece of 2" schedule 40 PVC in half long ways. Cut out a 4" tang and shaped the point of the 8" blade. Drilled 3 quarter inch holes in the tang and also in 2 scraps of wood. I extended the wood into the blade so it won't flex. I epoxied the two handles together with 1/4" X 5/8" splined gluing pins I got from the hardware store. Added a zip tie to hang if from.

Now all I need is some nicer weather to try it. Gary

Very nice, I have a non metal sand scoop so when I scoop I can check with detector. They don't last as long as aluminum but saves time and I can replace it cheap.
