Sand Scoop shaft

Ok everybody, which do you prefer, wood or fiberglass for your sand scoop?
I just got a new 11x8 scoop for Christmas and it takes an 1 1/4 shaft. Trying to figure out what will work best for this large scoop.

First are you asking sand scoop or water scoop, they are different? If it is to be used in the water I prefer wood, floats better. If it is sand scoop then wood, fiber or aluminum will work.

I olan on doing both, water and beach. I'm having trouble finding a shaft that has a 1.25 dia that will fit in my scoop.

Go to home depot, lowes or any hardware store, buy a shovel handle and then grind down the end to fit it in. You can use a rasp file, grinder, sander, you could also go to a wood working shop and pay them to do it.

I just replaced my sand scoop and needed a new handle. Purchased a post hole digger handle. I also read somewhere if using wood install so the wood grain faces forward. Supposedly stronger that way.
