I noticed there are a lot of shafts and handles made of carbon fiber but not one scoop made of carbon fiber. Any one have any thoughts on this or an equivalent light weight, rust proof scoop I can use for the beach in and out of water that is strong as the stainless steel but not nearly as heavy?

Best would be Titanium...but then if it breaks it's not something you can fire up the old MilerMatic and weld. I had one friend who was working on a (all carbon fiber scoop} Composite material ...He found, it was not strong enough to with stand the constant flexing and wear of sand/rocks...

Nothing I know of in the composite materials can match SS and Titanium So a Ti scoop with Carbon fiber handle will set you back 600.oo plus...

Good Luck!

Don't think the fiber would hold up especially on the digging tip. Like OBN said.... You could go to titanium, however very expensive. Costs per weight and durability you can't beat SS. I do like my Carbon fiber handle. Makes a difference.
