I have a rock (drum type) tumbler, I'm considering buying a vibrating tumbler for coins but have a few questions?
1. These usually run dry, how much noise do they make?
2. What type of cleaning media works best for coins? How long does it last?
3. Can you also use it with water?
4. How long does it take to clean coins with this type of tumbler?

Thanks!

Jeff

#1 they don't make as much noise as the tumbler and clean in a shorter time
#2 I've used walnut hulls before and I read some where in the forum to try small uncolored aquarium gravel.
#3 You have to add a small amount of water to the media
#4 I have ran mine as short as a couple of hours and as long as 48 depending on how dirty the coins are

tips: 1. do not over load the coins in the bowl, they must have a chance to move and surface to clean
2. find some screen mesh just a tad bigger than your media so you can collect the coins and recycle the media
3. Don't expect miracles, does an OK job
4. I quit cleaning all my clad for the banks, they don't seem to care
5. I'm still experimenting with it (i'm no expert yet)

Bought mine from Harbor Freight. Use aquarium gravel with about 3 tbs baking soda & water just about 3/4 " below top of gravel. Dollar store strainer to retreive goodies from gravel.

I bought one from Harbor Freight also. Got the triangular shaped media for it, but doesn't do a goos job. However, it does say use dry but since you have had success wetting the media, I think I will try that. Good hunting.
