It depends if you are really going to use what you find for historical reasons or just monetary gain for yourself. HaHaHa get the gold and get out I am to pretty for jail..

A 'Do Not Trespass' sign is placed for numerous reasons which may include hazardous conditions, liability issues, and the like.

Regardless of who owns the property, a person does not have tacit approval to cross the line.

It's not really any different than stealing a candy bar from the local grocer.

Without permission, the intent is to steal.

It doesn't matter what may lie on or beneath the ground, its not the any persons right to arbitrarily change the laws to fit his / hers selfish desires.

You can't justify stealing with the attitude and position of 'I'm Saving a Piece of History.'

Without a doubt, condoning theft and violation of property rights seems to be prevalent on this site.

Stefen,

"Without a doubt, condoning theft and violation of property rights seems to be prevalent on this site"

PREVALENT: in general use or acceptance.

how did you detemine that the 12,910 members
on this site condone anything?

If I thought the way you do, I would not want to
be a member of a site that "condoned theft and violation
of property rights."

I have never detected against an owner's wishes or trespassed or anything like that. I have opinions on the matter, but I'll keep them to myself except to say that not everything is black and white.

The most important thing here is that, if anyone does this sort of thing, KEEP IT TO YOURSELF. We only shoot ourselves, and our hobby, in the foot by broadcasting it to everyone.

And Stefen...you obviously don't know a lot of people on this site and have not done your homework.

After the way they Jumped Tinpan , Do you think anyone
is going to admit anything unless they want to start a Controversy ?
which is the reason most say they break the law on here,
in the first place.
and why I take the "HIGH ROAD" and say Live & Let Live ;)

Well spoken Stefen.
I would want to search and it would not be Jail that detours Me.... But Everytime a detectorist violates the Law it will be used against our hobby as a whole,Which is already endangered.

and it makes all us Honest detectorsts look better by working harder
to prove were not all like that.

It also gives ME a lead in line when asking to detect. ;)

Example :
"I know some will just decide it's OK and do it,
But I like to ask first
8) "

It also gives those here who like to run people down a lead in :P

SEE; there is a Good side to everything,
If we are willing to relax and look after ourselves
instead of trying to run everyone elses lives :D

MY PET PEEVE.
Those who Leave holes open, whether they had
permission or not, this has been the Main reason around
here for landowners to say no.
and it's hard to convince them you wont. Even tho
you just convinced them you ask first.

I agree with you 100%, Jeff. It is unfortunate to see good, honest citizens proclaim disgust against self-proclaimed thieving.

Happy Trails, Jim

I agree, Who put us here to Judge Others ?
Even tho I agree it is Wrong to detect when told No,
Isn't that for the Judges & Juries in Court to Judge someone for it ?

Jeff,

Please do not confuse upholding the law (Judge/Jury) with peer review. ;)

NO CONFUSION SWR.

That's why all posts are still here ;)

Just making a Comment with a (HINT) so everyone knows,
They Start calling Names, instead of keeping it Civil,
it won't be allowed 8)
