CA question re: finding property owners

Can someone give me advice on finding a property owner in
CA. How can I find who owns something in the country as compared to the city? Are there any names I can find by going to the computer? Anyone have any easy links that are accessable from home. If not, how would I find this info without a bunch of dancing around county offices?
    Thanks CS

Re: CA question re: finding property owners

I don't know of any free sites but there are many websites devoted to real estate and public records information on a nationwide scale. They are usually about $20-25 a month for an unlimited amount of searches.Might be worth it,save time and gas, just have a list of addresses and go searching for owner info..Here's an example of just one site-http://www.knowX.com/subreg/pr_asset...FR87GAoddVpJJg Good luck hope this helps.

Hi Coinshooter, I have found that the fastest and most accurate way to find a land owner , is to contact the local tax office. Depending on the location and municipality (ie) the town or township. You would have to have the correct address of the property. It works for me, however CA could be different and difficult. Good luck

That might be difficult as it is just a field. I'll see about some other sources. Thanks!

Re: CA question re: finding property owners

In the northen KA county where I lived RE agents have access to computerized property tax data which is normally accessed thru the tax accessors office and is considered public information. If you know an agent who subscribes to their local MLS Service (all on the web now) they often will have this same access and get the data for you; saves you the time going to the county offices. There are other ways to do this without access to the tax info and a good agent can get you an owner's name and address fairly quickly, just be prudent about how you and the agent go about it since is not really a real estate sales activity. You probably already know this, but you're more likely get a better response by finding the owners already outside and starting your contact that way or by sending a nice letter thru the mail. Since it is a field the letter would probably be best. I would not advise calling.

Holeintoe is correct, contact the County Accessors office and look for the AP Maps to get the parcel number (Tax Accessors Parcel Number) and cross check that to extrapolate the present owner.
