I wanted to post something positive. This is my recent publication and it discusses how a small club in Windsor, ON (other side of the Detroit River from Detroit, MI) went up against the municipal government as well as the Ministry that oversees archaeology. It was a small win but set a great precedent for clubs and individuals to find ways to continue detecting legally. It also looks at another municipality that does not permit detecting and questions if the artifacts in the one city are 'safer' then another.
My PhD discusses Canadian metal detection and legislation so this is just one of many steps. I would appreciate any members wiling to fill out an anonymous survey about detecting and self-identity within the detecting community.
