Lake Berkley Denver Colorado is Being Drained

Berkley Lake, in Denver, CO. is being drained as part of a project that includes screening a walking trail from I-70 with a berm, trees and indigenous grasses.

This is a welcome event for many of the treasure hunters in the area. As most treasure hunters know, it doesn’t get much better than this type of scenario for us.

Yep, ten seconds after the news channel broadcast this info, 1000 people went out and bought $100.00 pieces of detecting junk at Wallmart, then proceeded to dig 10,000 holes, leaving all the trash next to these 10,000 holes.

Place looked like Verdun.

Stuff can be found, but man, do you have to have a lot of patience. Crazy, crazy amount of trash, cans, sinkers, and thousands upon thousands of shotgun shell casings.
(They had skeet-shooting clubs there.)
When they drained City Park, it wasn't near as bad, trash-wise.
Good luck.

Honestly, if you are a decent detectorist, and very patient, you can find something.
The newspaper article was written in a 1849 Get-You-To-Go-To-California style, and everyone who is $1800 an ounce gold greedy responded.
The reporter should have been flogged, and then marched out of town.

I have seen one gold ring dug.

I have heard of two others found sifting, in truly deep, wet, smelly muck.

I've been there sifting, long, backbreaking hours, for the occasional marble, or older nickel.
I am not exaggerating, the amount of sand that we dig and sift is way out of proportion to what we find.

I am there because I am at least twenty pounds heavier than I want to be, and it's a Hell of a lot more fun than the gym.

Carl,

Thats a great way to look at it. Exercise for those who hate exercise, the pay off may be double for your trouble too! I actually got some flack on another forum for making and posting this video and I tried to point out that I made this and posted it on an MD forum where most of us already know the code of ethics for MD'ing and such. It was the reporter for the post who was putting it out there for the general reader who didn't know a thing.

Anyways Good luck out there and I'd love to see any pics of stuff you find.

Russ
