Thanks for posting this. In 1957, my dad had to take a class for work for one month in NY, so my mom, oldest brother and I went with. I remember finding Herkimer diamonds there.

Very cool. We used to spend a lot more time there, and could write stories about the folks who mined full time, and the barter system they had going. It was like a subculture rockhounds meets hippies.
