    Possible lead in Oquawka, Illinois?

I have been doing a lot of research into Mercer County, Illinois history (to the north of Oquawka) and happened onto this story about a mid to late 1800's bank robbery in Oquawka (then known as Yellow Banks or Lower Yellow Banks). According to the story, some or all of the money was briefly stored in a place called "Eagle House." Apparently some was found, but perhaps not all.

    Read here: http://www.archive.org/details/recollectionsofp00jamiso in Chapters 20 & 21.

Does anyone know where the Eagle House is? I can find very little about this on the internet. Since I live in Vegas, it would be something of a long trip for me to personally investigate.

    Happy Hunting, all.

Re: Possible lead in Oquawka, Illinois?

I found a treasure trove of history in our local newspaper. I don't know if it would help, but look at the areas paper & see if they have anything from the time you are researching. I stumbled upon ours accidently. wasn't looking for history, just clicked on a side link out of curiosity & found pages of pix & whens, whos, wheres. I now use it for most of my research. Good luck!
