The James gang robbed a bank in Russelville,Ky. of $17,000. $11,000 were in Gold
coins. They managed to wound the sherrif, but within minutes a 50 man posse was
in hot pursuit. At the red river the gang split up and managed to lose the posse. Jesse and
Frank headed to Adairville, where Jesse had a brother in law, George Hite, who owned a
farm there. He would put them up while things cooled off. It is strongly believed that a large
amount of stolen loot is buried there.
