It's always possible but I don't buy it. Besides, I think his brother Edwin would have known about any gold hidden in the house.

Plus it is a conspiracy theory that is pretty hard to believe.

Well, JW (Booth) was "rumored" to be a member of the KNIGHTS OF THE GOLDEN CIRCLE; he & his brother MAY have been "well-connected", with NORTHERN KGC, Rebel (CSA) Spies, etc. JUST NEVER KNOW... 8)
