Wiley died on June 17, 1917, from a stroke (from his death certificate), it happened while he was out plowing (at age 75, no less!).
Wiley had the reputation of hiding money all around and he was rather well to do. When he died, Bessie was 11 years old. She said that when they returned to the house after the funeral at Dunn's Creek Baptist Church, there were holes all around the yard and barns where people had searched for the buried money during the funeral.
William Wiley McGee, Jr. was born Oct. 22, 1841 in Echola, Tuscaloosa Co., AL. He died June 19, 1917 in Echola after suffering a stroke while plowing in the heat of the day. He is buried at Dunn's Creek Baptist Church cemetery.
His first wife was the widow of his first cousin John Cooper (son of Elizabeth McGee) who died in CSA.
Wiley married second Martha A. Corr after Nancy died. Martha died shortly and Wiley married the third time to Sara Etta Spring
