People under estimate the Channel. It is over a thousand feet deep. When it blows I have seen 25 plus foot swells. Quite dangerous when you venture out in a small craft. San Clemente is 41 miles from the main land and about 14 miles further than Catalina Island. It is owned by the US Navy and they use it for Seal trying and target practice. It is illegal to set foot on it but the fishing is spectacular!

Funny I worked on this island many times when I was in the Navy and never heard a thing. I sure UN-buried lots of things with all the explosives we were setting off but never saw any treasure flying through the air. Oh well, maybe again one day. I'll have to ask my buddies at our reunion every August if they have ever heard of such a thing.
