    J. O. Maloney cache, pt. fd.

According to an article in the May, 1976 issue of Lost Treasure, p. 14, J. O. Maloney hid a cache of gold and silver coins near Morris, CT. Maloney died in 1887. According to author Berl Hunt, part of this cache was recovered by two squirrel hunters in October, 1887. The hunters wounded a squirrel, which nonetheless made it to its nest: a box in the branches of a tree. After recovering the squirrel, one hunter suddenly realized the squirrel had chewed "paper bank notes" for bedding inside the box. Experts who examined the remains of the notes claimed there had to be a minimum of $5,000 in the box.

However, no gold or silver coins were found. Those are still believe buried near Morris, CT.
