Just after the civil war, Hamilton Pate drove a cattle herd to market.
He was paid with gold coins. When he was attempting to rebury an
iron tea kettle with the coins in it, his neighbor came up behind him.
At dusk, he told his wife that he was going to rebury it at a different
location, which he apparently did. He died before arriving back at
his house. The article didn't mention that he died of foul play. Many
people believe the money is still there. You must get permission from
the property owner to search. Location is in Songer twp.
