I'm working on a new one I just heard about out my way...A stagecoach robbery somewhere very near current-day Paw Paw, along an old established route. What I hear tell is that a Posse was almost immediately put together and the Robbers had to ditch the loot shortly after they got it! The take was alleged to consist of gold and silver coins (mostly dollars) and maybe some small silver bullion. The Banditti used to hide out and run around the area just a little west of Paw Paw...which is the way the stage Robbers fled, so...???

:dontknow:

Did you get your detector at Electronic Explorations, Stash?

Here, Stash - maybe they came in your way, too. I haven't read the entire story. http://genealogytrails.com/ill/lee/banditti.html

Sorry to be a kill-joy, but 99% of these "lost mine" and "stolen stage-coach" robbery lores and legends are just that: Lores and legends. If I had a dollar for every "sure-fired-bullet-proof" treasure story I've heard, I'd be rich already.

Throw in a few faded newspaper clippings, and a few "he said she said" type statements, add a drawing of a miner posed next to his burro, and ........ well by golly it MUST BE TRUE!

The human mind wants SSEEEOOO hard to believe (lest you be "left out"), that we subconsciously dismiss all other explanations. And latch, instead, onto the fabulous images of gold coins, riches, etc..... All logic goes out the door, and people tend to cease thinking critically. Oh sure, in their MIND they sincerely believe they're "sorting out the facts" and "being critical", but in reality, they're not.

Well...Since this is the ONLY story I've ever given more than 3 or 4 minutes of my time to, and since it's really about the only one within a 150-mile drive of my place...What the Heck?

Be kinda fun if it turned out to be one of those "one percenters". :)

That Dealer in Lombard is a whiz on White's. He's worked on my old ones and I was really pleased. His hours aren't that great, but when you run out of the house, you do the best you can.
