Where Walnut Cr. Empties into the mississinewa river?

Either this Map is Not very Accurate Or I Wonder if the creek has been destryed by the
Walnut Creek gulf course

There's more than one walnut creek in Indiana, found one between gas city and marion but it has been heavily mined for stone probably where it empties into the river. HH

I live 3 miles from the site, you would have to get permission from the gravel co. They own all the land around where the creek dumps in to the river.

Sounds like a good story to begin running down. Unfortunately (like most treasure tales) the current location is likely underneath a housing development (or in this case a cemetery).

Since the landmark do exist, and the family name is there in an older map, it has some credibility. The first thing to do is to look up the land abstract. trace it back to the grandfather. then see how it was portioned off to the family, what was sold off, and exactly what piece of land was left that he could have buried the money on.

Stories are notoriously full of bad details and even lies to make the story juicier, even if they a based on a truth. Track down the truths.

I've looked into this a little more, it seems there was a sawmill on his property and a school house, both are now gone, Also the Griffin family cemetery is back there, only 4 or 5 head stones that are still there.
