Ark River Treasure

This was the answer when asked about ark River Relic locations near wichita.



There is one known as the "Arkansas River Treasure" Located at the junction of the Arkansas and Little Arkansas Rivers, near Wichita. Some details can be found on pg 64 in the Directory of buried or Sunken Treasures and Lost Mines in the United States by Thomas Penfield and also in the Treasure Guide Series on Kansas pg 41.





The article aslo states there is another treasure near Wichita, but it talkes about Gold Nuggets found along the Ark river between Cimarron Ks. and Chatoe's island (somewhere near Lakin) Not really near Wichita and because Chatoes island will never be found can not really pinpoint a location. It was called "Missouri Miners lost Gold"

A- Try going south from Oakley to the Smokey River near Elkader. Many people have reported fine peices of moss opal in the gravel bars along the banks of the river. The material takes an outstanding polish and can be cut into fine gems. Dec 1981

just to let you know where the two rivers meet, you're not going to be able to do much digging, it's all privately owned

Chouteau's Island............Located about six miles west of Lakin, Kansas in Kearny County, Chouteau’s Island has long since disappeared due to erosion by the Arkansas River.
