Treasure Found by Ocean County Road Crew

I built bridges most of my life, one day we had just closed a road, and were taking the guardrail off a small single span bridge, when a deputy Sheriff pulled up.
"all right boys, where is it?" he said. Once we convinced him we didn't know what he was talking about, he told us they had a jewel thief in custody, and he told them that he stashed his loot under that bridge. We helped him look, until he was satisfied it wasn't there, and left.
Then we tore that place apart...but found nothing. On the way home I checked other bridges near by, but no luck.
