Oregon beaches. Have there been any old spanish coins found?

Live in Portland, have been thinking of hitting the beach. does any one know of any spanish coins that have ever been found? all i'v heard about is bees wax. also what kind of finds have you guys found on oregon beachs? I know with all our tropical weather(lol) the trip may be a bust. but any incouraging finds would make the hunt more exciting.
ps wold be cool to hook up with a partner to do some detecting. live in Beaverton if anyone is interested give me a shout. thanks.

There have been several Spanish coins found in Oregon on or near the Pacific beaches. Try getting Treasure Map Atlas by Thomas Terry: information on pg. 111.

Robert Marx's in Buried Treasure of the United States, p. 309. Marx states that at Gold Beach was named when "... a Spanish treasure galleon was wrecked there and the survivors buried large quantities of treasure in many separate caches along the coast."

Oregon Geographic Names by Lewis B. McArthur, arguable the definitive source of Oregon place names and their history, disagrees with Marx. He states "Gold was discovered in the sands of Curry County in the early 50's and the beaches were named on that account." (This would be the 1850's, btw.) Gold Beach is located at the mouth of Rogue River, an area still well-known for gold production.

So, where did Marx's information come from?

There are several sources for Spanish galleons in Oregon. True Frontiers has an article in Winter, 1977, p. 42. Another source was Pacific Graveyards, p. 278. Mention is made of another galleon, said to have wrecked in 1760, near Neahkahnie Mountain, and known as the Beeswax ship (Treasure Map Atlas, p. 111). Neahkanie Mountain is at about 300 miles north of Gold Beach.

Treasure Map Atlas also includes a reference to a Spanish Galleon wrecked at Gold Beach on p. 111.

Seems to be some conflicting data here, and without specific references, wouldn't look much further unless you have new information.

Not Spanish coins but they are all from different country's and where all found near each other and all are close to the same date. Found on an Oregon beach.
