Miser's Hoard Never Spent

Debole Hare came to Roulet (now Roulette) in 1830 where he purchased a small farm from a certain John Keating, located in Halfway Hollow. Hare was in his 60's and never trusted banks with his money. He began stashing his wealth in the form of gold coins in a large milk can which he kept buried somewhere on his farm. On April 7, 1850, he was drowned in the swift moving waters of the Allegheny River as he was trying to cross it by means of a log footbridge. His body was later pulled from the water near the Lehman farm.
The search for his hoard began almost immediately, first by his family and then by anyone who knew the story of the milk can filled with gold coins. Not a single coin was ever found. Old county records should give an accurate position of Hare's property.
