$100,000 in 1913 (not even as far back as 1880) would be the same as $2,289,000 today.
To believe that a 'recluse farmer in Pa.' stashed the equivalent of over $2.2M+ in 1880 is beyond (even my) imagination. However, to read the recovery of this stash has not been verified, I can certainly believe.
