The story goes that back in the late 1800's a man with the last name Mason lived on Blue Hill which is directly across from Sunbury and Northumberland. He was a bit of an odd ball and built a two story octagon home that actually leaned out over the cliff. He kept a library on the first floor and I assume slept on the second. On the roof, I read somewhere he used for astronomy. I don't know if that is true or not. He owned a general store in Sunbury and a home in Williamsport. Another story says he used to ice skate down the river in winter...again who knows. Supposedly, he collected silver coins and buried them in barrels on the hill near his octagon house.

The property is now a small state park. After the hermit owned it and before the State there was a large hotel on the property that burned down.
