1916
LeRoy Heritage Museum
In this video we examine a 1916 image of the lumber town of Laquin, Pennsylvania, painted by E.W. Spofford. Matt Carl explains how the town is laid out and how the main buildings were used. After 30 years in operation the town shut down and slowly vanished. It is a community lost.
In the second episode of "LAQUIN - A Community Lost" we focus on the sawmill, one of the largest in the nation at the time of its operation. Comparing past images with present images, we discover the ruins of this massive mill where lumber was produced and shipped all over the northeastern United States beginning in 1902 and ending in 1925.
