Mysterious unexplained item????!

Found this. Year ago and have asked multiple people no one has been able to shed any light on the object. It was found at an old plantation where thousands of people went threw it does appear to be a sphinx with Egyptian type decor. please if anyone has any idea of time period or identification help me out.

Hmm well that really confirms a lot. My dad is the one who duh this and has been searching for answers for awhile. I told him he needs an account and to get on here. He was kinda bummed as to finding out it is not that old but I still think its a good story. I appreciate everyone for their help and info. Hopefully I can someday return the favor. Thanks a lot!
