The "Era of Treasure Stories" I would not place any confidence in the story without further research. It sounds like one of those stories to attract business or tourism to a particular place or location. There is treasure on Fernandina Island. The recovery ships sent out from Cuba to salvage the 1715 plate fleet sand just off shore near 9th Street. Now that is a real treasure to find. But as for the newspaper story I do not believe. Thanks anyway, Jeff of Pa.

By the way that should be Amelia Island.
