The problem is not the Rum. I highly recommend for treasure hunters to search commercial sponsoring.

The shameful thing is the very unscientific, incompetent claims that this is one of Morgan's shipwrecks. Strictly for personal gain. This coming from Texas A&M that scream from the rooftops that the treasure hunters only think of personal gain.
Texas A&M that boicot and blacklist any archaeologist that dares giving a treasure hunter a helping hand.

MY apologies enjoyed chatting with people but will not be posting anymore at treasurenet. Will not tolerate annoying pop ups on the bottom of screen.

Discrete ads, pertinent to the subjects are OK. After all, the Forum must also recover the cost.

Flashing ads are a pain. I make a point of never buying anything from companies that use aggressive marketing.

Morgan's name was later taken on by the Captain Morgan rum company. All artefacts found will remain property of the Panamanian government, and will go on display at the Patronato Panama Viejo.

With all the news reports the story went dead rather quickly. There is fact many wrecks near the Lajas Reef all similar time period. I thought the discovery was little presumptuous in declaring the vessel one of Morgans ships. Even trying to identify a ship by cannons are fraught with danger because some times captured Spanish guns was re used on English warships.

Lajas Reef claimed Many Ships. I suspect the wreck of "Good Jesus" lost 1598 was one of the many wrecks on that reef.

I chuckled out loud when I read the statement from the news article in red. The fine folks at Patronato Panama Viejo are some of the most useless and arrogant people I've come across. For example, there were at least 3 people that I know of who approached these "professionals" at different times years ago to inform them of the location of the original, colonial site of Nombre de Dios, Panama with the hope that they would preserve the site and do a proper study. On part of the site, a manganese mining company had already destroyed a nice chunk of it. Without exception, these guys just shrugged and showed no interest in the site whatsoever.

And what's it been? 7-8 years since Morgan's supposed ship and cannons were found during this Morgan Rum exhibition? There is still nothing regarding the wreck at the PPV museum the last time I was there and I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for the any relics to be preserved and displayed. They simply don't care, are corrupt, and/or don't care enough to put forth some effort into it. I know there are those who practice the metal detecting hobby in Panama who would be happy to give over any colonial relics as long as they would be properly studied, preserved and displayed, however, in Panama it would never happen. They would disappear, never to be seen again.

Kanacki- your second comment about these scientists being presumptuous in declaring the vessel one of Morgan's ships is spot on according to a friend of mine in Panama. This guy actually dove on the site in the 1970s and knows more about Spanish Colonial artifacts than most and he told me that they have the wrong ship. It also should be noted that this area near Fort San Lorenzo was part of the American Canal Zone for almost 90 years and thus, there were many Zonians and military personnel who also dove on the site for decades. It was looted heavily and it was always reported from these guys that there were numerous shipwrecks in the vicinity. Many of the most recent were from the Gold Rush '49er period (1849 to about 1855).

Hello BillA, Simon 1, Treasure diver. All good This old dinosaur forgets he has his own IT specialist.

Although technically retired from day to day operations. I have Business interests in a banking. Bottled water company, A coral farm. 2 charter vessels. a labour hire company. A chemical company. Real estate and interests in several mining operations.

I understand the need for forum to pay its way and do not mind adds on side . But with annoying pop ups at the bottom of page preventing you from reading is not the answer.

Hello Perdidogringo I am not surprised the attitude in regards to colonial history. I have seen that attitude in several countries.

I would go so far as to say that the Spanish and their leavings are reviled, certainly in Mexico and Costa Rica.

at the very least something to keep occupied

Hello Bill and Simon my hobby was sailing. I am flying out to Indonesia at the end of month. I will be catching up with my son and daughter in law. They are running a dive charter business in eastern Indonesia. Be sailing once again among the islands is always a pleasure.
