may be a legend but i don't think more then a handfull of people know of this legend.
this was told to me in 2003

a old time miner was high grading gold daily from a gold mine.
just before being caught with the loot it is said that he buried it where no one would look.

"the outhouse"

an old freind of mine was told by the wife of a miner where to look but the area was being explored by a mining company and there were too many people around.

Old Discovery Mine "it produced one million ounces of gold from one million tons of rock"
Yellowknife North West Territories Canada

there was an old town built for the mine .. maybe 15 houses and a school.
most of the houses have fallen down last time i was there " i was working there doing geophysics for a gold mining company in 2001"

i assume the miners had their own living area somewhere else on site, these houses would have been built for the bosses and families so it's unlikely they were high grading.
it should be fairly easy to find with the help of an old timer who remembers the area.

if it's true then there is a few bucks to be made

If you have an aprox date you could check out a map of the period, there may also be photographs and newpaper articles from the time.
