i have seen several instances of these type of trees pointing to caves , natural or not i dont know. maybe just coincedance i suppose. but you may want to look where that branch points, especially if its in a stream bed area, dry or wet dont matter.

Thanks for that info, kiddrock! This place where the tree(is at) is almost out on the prairie. There doesn't seem to be anything that its pointing to--just a lot of wide open space and grassland. I will for sure check it out this fall when the grass dies back and maybe there will be another sign or something. If I find anything else, I'll post it where you all can see it. It just didn't look natural to me and that's why I had to ask .

Don't forget the about half dozen free mapping sites out there like google earth and usaphotomaps.


Some of them may have old aireal photos of the developed areas...And if you squint really hard and use imagination might be helpful!

We had a big thunderstorm blow across the prairie about a week ago. It blew part of this tree over . The other part isn't in very good shape, so it probably won't be long before it falls down too.

I remember reading that American Indians also use to bend and stake trees to point to trails, water, and safe passages through swamps, we had one here until just a few years back, it pointed to a safe way though a heavy swamp...

Sheldon--I think you're right----this probably was a trail marker tree or water marker.
I'm just glad I have pictures of it since that storm blew half of it down.

sandcreek,thanks for the reply,and yes ,this is a great forum.wish i could have had this info back 20 yrs ago.i thoroughly enjoyed the post by rangler with that 101 post:not cutting anyone else short but what he explained about the alpha and omega signs reminded me about Bob Brewers dealings with the kgc signs.if you don't have his book,you're missing a lot.that book is''shadow of the sentinel'':hope i'm not breaking any rules with that..don't these signs get you up early thoughlater-----tenclaw or ellis

Thanks for the info on the book, tenclaw! I just bought it on eBay! Can't wait to read it. And I think Old Dog is right--its not against any rules to recommend reading material.
Hopefully we'll get to search around this site soon. It was kinda freaky that as soon as we started taking pictures of it and questioning as to why those limbs were bent that way , a windstorm blew part of it down!

I honestly don't know at this point .....If ever confronted with a decision I will have to weigh feudal loyalties versus today's realities . It will not be an easy task .

desertmoons--I'm not sure that it is a rock you're seeing or just the part of the tree that blew over. I looked at all my pictures and I don't think there is a rock out there by that tree. I cropped a couple of the pics in closer--see what ya think...........
We'll try to get some more shots of the tree this weekend.
