Contemporary witnesses also place him in the Hillsboro and Silver City areas of SW New Mexico for significent time periods in the late '80's.

There is documentation of about an eighteen month stay in the Leadville Colorado area as well.
Nis reputed hang out was the Half Moon Gulch area.

Major mining districts. Lots of bullion being extracted, lots of holes in the ground.

The confounding record is of a reunion photo and roll call record of a guerrilla reunion held in Texas in the 1890s

it records J. James as present. The picture has an unidentified bearded man that has facial similarities to James.

Careful - there are many, many JJ's out there. Especially in the avalanche of books in the past 10 years or so.
