Yep, photo please. Are these real horseshoes mounted on something; painted ones on something; carved ones in stone or tree?? Not enough info for even an educated guess.

Goverton! I've learned that when a branch is open end down, it means to go up,, my guess it is the same for horseshoes, go in the direction of the closed end,, how far up?? And with 3 horseshoes? Hope this helps some! td

Many times the miners would use a horseshoe to indicate a tunnel or mine or cave entrance.
This would look like a horseshoe with the legs pointing down.

I echo the photo request, but site unseen ...
three horseshoes could be three "C"'s, roman numerals at 100 for each 'C' could
mean a distance of 300 units, varas, yards, feet, rods, chains, leagues, ect..
lots to work out, other signs in the area, like Clay said is needed for context!

it might be a direction and distance. if you can orient the map to the known terrain?
if so then take a compass bearing the way the closed end of the horseshoes are pointing
..and see where that leads you , pretty sure the 3 horseshoes are distance, what that measure of
distance is what you have to find out..
can you post the map without any landmarks that would give the location away?
what era do you think the map is from. what are the other signs?
