Though it is kinda funny in a wrong way, I thought I'd chime in here because I just took a similar photo of a tree (minus short "limb") a couple days ago...

Just wanted to see if I could get any serious suggestions or ideas. It was just split at the bottom... and I didn't notice any other trees around that were fashioned the same way.

looks like the ground was higher.the dirt got washed away.looks like thats some of the root?

its a really old tree. it broke off, probably in the wind, when it was young and stuck in the ground. Instead of dying, the fresh break grew roots and thats what is left today.

The V of the tree I think means it's a line marker. The land line runs through the V of the tree. You can follow the pointer to see if it leads to a rock or metal buried in the ground or another strange tree pointing in another direction. Tim
